My work as a lead trial attorney frequently involves performing legal analysis, and articulating that analysis and its conclusions through clear oral and written communications to senior management, settlement and presiding judges, and the Commission in briefs on/opposing exceptions. Given the complexity of the issues set for hearing by the Commission, I also frequently enlist the support of my co-counsel and legal externs by delegating certain research and writing projects. Additionally, because the legal analysis of most issues set for litigation by the Commission is enlightened by the accounting, ratemaking, and economic principles that inform the Commission’s regulations, policies and orders, my work also necessarily involves managing and organizing the work of the technical staff assigned to a case. As lead trial attorney, it is my duty to ensure that the team’s positions are consistent with the Commission’s regulations, precedents and policies, so it is therefore critical that I and my team understand the legal and technical principles that bear on an issue, so that we can effectively advocate in favor of our positions in testimony and subsequent briefing.
