ABOUT KEVIN MCCLURE

I\'m a higher education scholar and leader with 14 years of professional experience across student affairs, academic affairs, and faculty roles. I study higher education management, finance, and leadership, particularly at regional public universities. I currently serve as the Wendy and Dell Murphy Distinguished Scholar and Associate Professor of Higher Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. My current research focuses on the higher education workplace. I’m writing a book titled The Caring University: Reimagining the Higher Education Workplace after the Great Resignation, with Johns Hopkins University Press. And I’m leading a team of doctoral students studying turnover among employees in the UNC system. The other hat I wear is as Director of Public Engagement at the Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges, a research center housed at Appalachian State University dedicated to the study and advancement of regional colleges. At ARRC, I led our recent report on rural broad-access institutions. This winter, the book I co-edited, Unlocking Opportunity through Broadly Accessible Institutions, was published through Routledge. I also engage in public scholarship, writing op-eds for The Chronicle of Higher Education and columns on leadership for EdSurge, speaking regularly with journalists, and serving as a speaker or panelist for various higher education events.
