ABOUT KEVIN KIRBY
As dean of the NKU College of Informatics, I am part of an unusual and creative community of students, staff, faculty, corporate partners, and donors who have painstakingly built a transdisciplinary college all about how humans create meaning in a world of data, and, now, how we navigate a physical world being populated with artificial intelligences. The world of higher ed runs deep in me, from the humanities to science. My father did not attend college, but he worked as an A/V technician for 40 years at Wayne State University in Detroit. Through him I got a glimpse of professors and their labs as a child. This led to a kind of attachment that borders on love.I\'ve lived in the worlds of linguistics, poetry, math, physics, neuroscience and ultimately computer science (even teaching Deep Learning AI as dean). My dean life has brought me to places as far-flung as Yangon and Tbilisi. I love living the silo-free life, helping lead the wonderful institution NKU has become.
