ABOUT KEVIN J. SEHLMEYER

Hello, my name is Kevin! I strive to be an innovative and safety-focused leader. I have a solid history of success in strategic planning, organizational development, accreditation, community risk reduction, firefighter safety and health and life safety. I have been successful building a statewide community risk reduction program by collaborating with hundreds of volunteers groups and over 700 fire departments across Michigan. This amazing team of volunteers and fire departments is known as MI Prevention. MI Prevention is using near real-time fatal fire data to create innovative messaging towards early warning (having working smoke alarms) and escape plans for both young and old to reduce fire fatalities. Additionally, I have demonstrated success in leading organizations and highly functioning teams by defining a shared vision amongst external and internal stakeholders. My formal education and work experience has prepared me to effectively develop organizations, enhance public outreach, and implement risk management strategies. Organizations I’ve made a positive impact with include the Sonic Alert, State of Michigan, Grand Rapids Fire Department, NationalCarbon Monoxide Awareness Association, Vision 20/20 Advisory Council, International Fire Marshals Association and Rescue Resources LLC —by developing a prowess that is not limited by one industry or company type. While others take pride in meeting all standards set before them, my passion is for delivering service that goes beyond organizational expectations!”
