ABOUT KEVIN GARWOOD

I spent much of my early career as a software developer developing applications for life science and other scientific computing projects. I later became more involved with metadata management, then data management, some data engineering, data strategy and data architecture. I\'ve done a lot of Java development, although now most of my work is done in Python.In life sciences, I have been involved with birth cohorts, routinely collected health data, observational health studies, early drug discovery and clinical trials. In the biotech sector, I developed a Data Desirability Framework to assess what good data looks like from the perspective of machine learning scientists, biologists, bioinformaticians, lawyers, compliance staff and software engineers. I also developed specialised profiles that described data assets that suit activities in various therapeutic areas.Much of this work has fed into a broader interest I\'ve had in data strategy, which serves the business strategy and determines the data landscape of generated or acquired data that supports business priorities. Each landscape involves an understanding of market players, ethics, intellectual property laws and data protection laws in multiple countries.
