As an Occupational Safety Officer for the past 32 years with worksafeBC, my responsibilities included the prevention of workplace injuries and diseases by ensuring compliance with relevant occupational health & safety legislation and regulations. My core duties as an OSO are to inspect workplaces, consult with and educate employers and workers on occupational health and safety requirements, their rights & responsibilities under the Workers Compensation Act, conduct worksite incident investigations and work with industry and safety leaders on safety initiatives. Over the past 32 years I have been involved with and lead many industry focus projects, regulation review & development committees, officer training development and mentoring, employer account management project, Several High Risk Strategy Initiatives such as Manufacturing and Forestry, and currently as a core team member of the combustible dust initiative for sawmills at WorksafeBC.
