ABOUT KEVEN MALKEWITZ

Keven is a combination of industry experience and academic expertise. A life-long interest in sports products led him to a fifteen-year career as a manager around the globe for adidas (19••••98). During this time he gained extensive experience through various stints as a business unit manager (Football, Baseball, Tennis), a product manager (Court and Racquet Sports), and as a manager of forecasting and planning (Basketball, Running, Specialty Shoes). At various points in his employment with adidas, he had both domestic responsibilities (US) as well as international (Germany, Global). Keven’s passion for products and the product development process led him to pursue a second career researching consumer behavior. After receiving his PhD in marketing from the University of Oregon in Keven now researches the influence of design in the new product development process, and how this influences supply-chain related issues such as time-to-market and development costs. Keven is currently an assistant professor of Marketing at Western Oregon University, and has published design-related articles in several peer-reviewed journals such as the prestigious Journal of Marketing, Journal of Retailing, the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, and the Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising, as well as having published numerous book chapters and academic proceedings. Keven’s background in product development and management allows him to provide a unique perspective on how the development process is influenced by design-related issues and by knowledge management. Keven is currently working on a multi-industry research project analyzing how the knowledge companies have is codified into product briefs used in the development process, and how these briefs influence product success and the efficiency of product developments. Specialties: Product Design, Consumer Behavior, Sports Marketing
