ABOUT KERRY WALKER
As an Associate Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, I lead a research group that explores how the brain processes sound. Our research examines various aspects of auditory perception, with a current focus on how pitch allows us to recognize melodies across instruments and focus on a voice in a crowded room. We are also examining how these processes change in late ageing, with impacts on communication and dementia. Our team uses techniques such as Neuropixels recordings, in vivo 2-photon calcium imaging, psychophysical studies, and computational models to investigate neural activity in the auditory cortex. Alongside my research, I am a Tutorial Fellow in Medical Sciences at Exeter College, a Governing Body member of Exeter College, Deputy Director of the Biomedical Sciences MBiomedSci degree at the University of Oxford, and a Reviewing Editor for the Journal of Neuroscience.My hobbies include gardening, fitness, sewing, and spending time with my daughter.
