About Keoki Williams
As a physician scientist, my career has focused on improving patients\' lives by advancing our understanding of common, yet genetically complex, diseases and their treatments. My research team consists of data scientists and geneticists who utilize next generation “omics” and large-scale real-world clinical data (e.g, electronic health records and pharmacy data) to predict disease susceptibility and the likelihood that an individual will respond to a given medication. We are also committed to ensuring that our scientific findings are broadly generalizable to all population groups. To date, I have been lead principal investigator on eight separate independent investigator awards from three institutes at the National Institutes of Health – the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). My group’s work encompasses polygenic risk prediction, genomics, transcriptomics, pharmacogenomics, and pharmacoepidemiology. We have made major contributions in the areas of asthma, allergy, cardiovascular disease, type-2 diabetes, and obesity. I am involved in multiple scientific collaborations at the national and international level, including sitting on the steering committee for the NHLBI’s Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program. My other passions and expertise include utilizing real-world evidence to study disease outcomes, pharmacoepidemiology, and pharmacogenomics; designing technology to improve patient-centric care and disease control (i.e, high-quality, value-based care); and expanding the reach of clinical research.
