Founded by San Jose City Council members Susan Hammer and Shirley Lewis in 1987, the San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School offers youth from the ages of 17 to 27 with a quality high school education and teaches valuable work and life skills that empower them to become responsible, productive, and caring citizens. While in school, students have the opportunity to earn while they learn through paid job training and career technical education, primarily in the context of environmental conservation and service to the community. As a Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Coordinator, I do the following:• Collaborate with fellows, Corps members, staff, and community partners to outline the goals, outcomes, and performance indicators of their respective environmental and education projects• Foster and maintain best practices for creating a sound and data informed culture• Tell meaningful stories about the impact of our work using data and rigorous research• Manage the organization\'s internal database system through troubleshooting technical issues, overseeing permissions and roles, and training staff on how to access the data they need• Contribute to the organization’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) goals by incorporating corpsmember perspectives into discussions relevant to fostering an inclusive and accountable workplace for corpsmembers and staffThese efforts enable key leaders at the Corps to brainstorm and identify the best decisions possible to improve our youth development and environmental conservation efforts.
