About Kenneth D. Crews
Kenneth D. Crews is an attorney, author, professor, and international copyright specialist, providing legal and consulting services to a wide range of clients. Dr. Crews specializes in copyright law, but regularly works in all areas of intellectual property, and serves the corporate, business, and dispute resolution needs of his clients. Clients include universities, libraries, museums, and other nonprofit entities, as well as businesses in the commercial, publishing, and entertainment sectors. He has represented and consulted with diverse clients about the use and ownership of copyrights, as well as strategic policymaking and drafting of licenses and other agreements. Through the past 30 years he has become a national and international leader in addressing copyright as it relates to the needs of higher education, research, publishing, and related activities throughout the U.S. and on six continents. Dr. Crews has been a professor of law, information science, and business, and he held a named chair (tenured) in law at Indiana University. He recently served as a university administrator and professor at Columbia University in New York City. Crews has testified as an expert witness in copyright litigation and has been an invited speaker and consultant at universities, libraries, museums, and conferences in 45 of the U.S. states and in more than 35 countries in diverse parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia. Crews has given testimony and advised governments on revised and pending legislation. He has been commissioned by the World Intellectual Property Organization (an agency of the U.N.) to analyze statutes on copyright exceptions and limitations in the laws of nearly every country, and he has presented findings to the assembled delegates in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional meetings. Kenneth Crews was named a 2014 recipient of the Mark T. Banner Award of the IP Section of the American Bar Association. He was the first recipient of the L.
