Pickens has 43 years of banking experience in the 3 major SC markets of Greenville, Columbia and Charleston. Prior to joining South Atlantic Bank in September of 2013, Pickens served as a SVP, Regional Executive and Senior Credit Officer for 10 years with Tidelands Bank and prior to that had served as a Business Banking Officer with BB & T at BBT\'s Meeting Street Main office in Charleston since 1992. He began his banking career as a management trainee at The FNB of SC in Columbia in various credit and loan administration roles. Pickens is a 82 Graduate of The Citadel where he earned his BS and MBA degrees. He attended The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University, The Graduate School of Banking of The South at LSU and The National Graduate Commercial Lending School at The University of Oklahoma at Norman. Also, while at The Citadel, Pickens was a member and Secretary of the 1982 Honor Committee and was also awarded the John O Willson Ring, one of two awards given to graduating seniors, as voted on by peers, as the finest and most courteous member of the class. Pickens is an active member of The Association of Citadel Alumni, Dunes West Country Club, Christ Anglican Church, The South Carolina Bankers Association, Theta Commission Kappa Alpha Order, The Poinsett Club -Greenville SC, The Harbour Club Charleston, SC and is a past officer of RMA of Charleston as well as serving on the SC Bankers Credit Committee and Community Bankers Council. A native of Greenville, SC, Pickens resides in Mount Pleasant with his wife Frances Montgomery Pickens and has 3 adult children, Will, Martha and Andrew. He is the son of Marshall C Pickens, a 44 year career banker in Greenville SC with Bankers Trust/ NCNB. Specialties: Broad banking experience in commercial lending and community lending as well as leading and managing teams.
