About Kenneth Lovett
A communications expert with deep knowledge of policy, politics, and media strategy. I am a strategic advisor to public and private sector clients and committed to helping them implement impactful change, with a focus on such issues as clean energy, transportation, higher education, criminal justice, gaming, and healthcare. As a partner at Ichor Strategies, I led growing public sector practice for the country\'s largest Black-owned professional services firm. I worked on issues ranging from clean energy to healthcare and was included on City & State New York\'s 2024 Transportation Power 100. Clients included New York State Energy, Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) and New York Power Authority (NYPA). Prior to Ichor, I had a 30-year career as an award-winning journalist, including 25 years covering the NYS Capitol for such publications as the (New York) Daily News and New York Post. Throughout my career, I honed my expertise pertaining to politics and policy on issues such as higher education, healthcare, climate change, criminal justice, gaming, and countless others. As Albany bureau chief for the Daily News, I managed a bureau that maxed out at four people. In addition to regularly breaking Impactful stories, I wrote a well-read and influential weekly political column. During my time at the Capitol, I covered 5 governors and 3 NYC mayors and was regularly included on City & State New York\'s annual Albany Power 100 list. After leaving journalism, I served as a senior advisor to the Chair and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the largest mass transit system in North America. While there, I engaged in high-level policy, political and media strategy while dealing with an array of critical transportation issues. I served as a liaison between the Authority and top state government officials. During COVID, I helped with the MTA\'s successful push for billions of dollars in federal relief funding. In addition, I was a high-level advisor on what became the nation\'s first congestion pricing program, for which I oversaw development of communications, media, and social media strategies, a project website and hotline, a fact sheet, top-line messaging, a stakeholder newsletter, and public meeting planning. I also handled incoming media inquiries and crisis communications pertaining to the politically-sensitive project. My various experiences covering and serving in government and my private sector experience have given me a unique perspective that can help public agencies and private companies navigate and mitigate their challenges.
