ABOUT KENNETH JIM

Ken is a Criminal Counsel for Legal Aid Ontario, at the Criminal Litigation Services - Major Case Management Office. He is one of 20 staff lawyers who conduct criminal trials and appeals. His practice runs the spectrum of summary conviction, hybrid and indictable matters and include, but not limited to: Bail hearings for all Criminal Code offences, drugs and youth matters. Mental health duty counsel, and special duty counsel. Amicus curiae and 486 application counsel. Crown pre-trials, and judicial pre-trials. Charter applications and other pre-trial applications. Preliminary inquiries. Trials before judges and juries. Guilty pleas and Sentencing. Appeals to the Superior Court of Justice, and Court of Appeal. Ken specializes in cases that involve Charter litigation or a legal defence. He enjoys finding weaknesses in the Crown\'s evidence through cross-examination and thorough preparation. Ken also acts as the office\'s student mentor. Ken has a lot of pride in the work that he does, and he vigorously defends his client\'s rights. Ken\'s criminal defence career began in 2004 when he attended the University of Windsor\'s Law School. Ken was both an intake and student litigator for three years at Community Legal Aid. He also clerked with Justice Lloyd Dean at the Ontario Court of Justice. After his call to the bar in 2008, Ken worked for David Midanik, a senior prominent defence lawyer in Toronto. After gaining a solid experience, Ken joined Legal Aid as Duty Counsel at College Park courthouse. After a year of serving as Duty Counsel, Ken moved to the Brampton Criminal Law Service Centre. He served in that capacity for about four years.
