Assistant Director & Lead of First-generation Initatives

In this role, I support first-generation students at Elon University through programming and advocacy in conjunction with campus partners. I oversee our peer mentoring program, First Phoenix, which pairs upper-class student with incoming students during their first year while conducting workshops to help first-year students gain more skills and resources they can use. I plan our annual First-Generation Celebration and Stole Ceremony alongside occasional events that honors the stories of our first-generation students. My work is highly collaborative as I work with various campus partners in Student Life, Undergraduate Research, the SPDC, Residence Life, Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, the Learning Center, and Parent Engagement to plan collaborative programming and/or provide support through trainings and resource sharing. Additionally, I manage Elon\'s partnership as a Network Champion Campus with FirstGen Forward, a national organization that supports first-generation students and various institutions. I chair our first-generation steering committee, and serve as a co-advisor to the First Phoenix Living-Learning Community and the First-Generation Student Society. I supervise a student workers occasionally including a graduate apprentice who provides additional support to our peer mentoring program and leads planning for our Scholarship and Opportunities Fair, a campus-wide event that connects sudents to various academic opportunities.
