As an Audit Chairman with the American Correctional Association (ACA), I manage initial/re-accreditation audit processes at various facilities throughout the United States. As Chairman, I oversee a 3 member team, interpreting standards, when necessary, and monitoring institutional processes, in support of standards, in various types of facilities. Additionally, I prepare the final audit report for presentation to the respective facility head and the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections for use during Panel Hearings.I have audited pursuant to the ALDF, ACI, ACRS, CTA, and JCF standard sets. As a team member, I was generally assigned the life safety, security, adult/juvenile discipline, staff training, inmate programs, access to courts, administration, and physical plant sections of respective standard sets.Evaluation of written policies and procedures, as well as, actual practice is facilitated during each audit. In addition to review of policy and procedure, staff/inmate interviews, observations, and review of relevant documentation, are the basis for findings.
