About Kendrick Dial
Since attaining my masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California, I have been relentlessly searching for non-traditional avenues to bridge my education, professional experiences/training and my love for the music and the arts. I\'m currently a Practice Consultant with the Academy of Professional Excellence, which means I coach social worker with CWS, on practice tools such as SDM, SOP, engagement, teaming and more. I\'m also a trainer with the Culturally Responsive Academy, so I develop curriculum and give trainings around helping human services organizations engage marginalized communities, identifying and managing bias, communications skills, challenging conversations and dealing with conflict. As a therapist intern, I provide counseling services with Open Heart Leaders program, I provide therapy for individuals and couples. My approach to therapy is really about connecting with people where they are, therapy can be fun, engaging and still provide accountability and growth. Understanding how important identity and culture is a key to my approach of engaging participants where they are. As an artist I\'m fortunate to have many experiences expressing myself through art, such as music with my band, The Lyrical Groove, performing with BkSoul, being a teaching artist with the Old Globe Theatre and providing coaching for those who want to connect with their Creativity in a meaningful way. Musically I am currently working on new projects, a solo project and a band project. It will be a blend of spoken word, hip hop, soul and jazz. Primarily exploring feelings and situations of the last 5 years, because it has been full of transition. But I also own my identity as a Black man, a father, a veteran, an artist, a son, brother, mentor and educator, and a and reflecting on life.
