About Kendra Karr

Bridging the gap between data-driven science and practical solutions for frontline communities to improve sustainability, conservation, livelihoods, and climate resilience through holistic and collaborative people-centered approaches. Proven scientific leader by providing thought leadership, the scientific groundwork, and guiding philosophy for how the Environmental Defense Fund approaches climate-resilient, community-led fisheries solutions. Developer and lead implementor of the Framework for Integrated Stock and Habitat Evaluation (FISHE), which has been adopted as the governmental framework in several countries to bring science to action. Trusted science expert to governments, local NGOs, and communities in dozens of countries worldwide. I excel at bringing science to stakeholders to build healthy, equitable, and sustainable blue food systems through science-based, participatory decision-making processes. Using collaborative and community-driven science to implement climate-resilient, adaptive single and multi-species fisheries assessment and management, co-management of marine resources, ecosystem-based management, science-based networks of marine protected areas, and socio-ecological resilience planning to reduce climate change\'s negative impacts and preserve and restore biodiversity. With over 20 years of experience in understanding the impacts of climate change on marine systems, working with stakeholders across diverse socio-ecological systems, and helping these communities build sustainable resilience - I seek to continually catalyze sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient socio-ecological systems across the globe.
