ABOUT KEN BARLOW
With over fifteen years’ editorial experience, I have a wide range of skills with which to assist organisations, publishers and authors. Prior to becoming freelance, I spent ten years at Zed Books, commissioning and editing non-fiction content for a global readership of researchers, policy makers, scholars, students, and the general public. Before this, I worked at Ebury Press, where I project managed and edited a variety of trade non-fiction for a mass-market audience. For organisations and publishers, I can offer copywriting, development editing and copy-editing expertise; for authors, consultancy in proposal and manuscript development. I have particular expertise in heavy editing; sharpening a text to improve clarity of argument, accessibility of language, structure and flow. I have a broad range of interests, with specialist knowledge in socio-economic issues, and African politics and development. Aside from my freelance editorial work, I am an Associate Commissioning Editor for Pluto, and sit on the Board of Trustees for the International African Institute.
