ABOUT KELLY BUTLER

As an educator, I take pride in building connections between curiosity, imagination, investigation, creativity, and discovery. I believe that an educator\'s job is not only to teach content and skills, but to inspire and encourage children to be life-long learners who have a passion and appreciation for acquiring knowledge. Furthermore, I believe teachers are responsible for teaching students how to learn, not just what to learn. I believe that “productive struggle” can inspire perseverance, strengthen stamina, build self-confidence, and inspire motivation in young children. However, I believe that struggle should be productive, proactive, and purposeful as should the methods a teacher uses to explore a concept with their students. I believe young children learn better when engaged in activities that utilize multiple intelligences, allow for practical application, and are founded in experiential learning. Furthermore, I approach my teaching methods with a focus on the learning process and individual progress while also creating individual goals for growth and development for each student. I have a passion for introducing children to a new experiences aimed at broadening their understanding and generating compassion for their fellow humans. Subsequently, I believe that above all, social-emotional development is key when preparing a child for their present as well as their future. I believe that teaching social emotional skills will help children learn how to empathize and encourage themselves and their peers. I believe that to truly value and respect the identity of ourselves and others, we must also value and respect our unique qualities.
