About Kelly Alverson

I am grateful for the privilege to help students realize their academic and professional goals as a teacher and faculty reviewer at the collegiate level. As an instructor my focus is on student success. Each student is an individual with a unique perspective and set of skills- each student will approach learning differently and this should be embraced. Encouraging students to build confidence in their own abilities and capacity to learn is the most important thing that I do. I found a love of teaching while still in grad school and am continually inspired watching students grapple with and grasp new concepts. At the end of my first class, a philosophy and ethics class for continuing education, the students presented me with a request to stay in the teaching field with all of their signatures at the bottom. I was hooked. The access we have to digital technology is incredible, with entire libraries at our fingertips, endless video content, online course materials and collaboration tools. I find incorporating digital content to be so enriching to the class and have built comprehensive online supplements for each of my courses using a myriad of learning management systems (LMS). I find that utilizing an online LMS assists each student with contributing to the class discussion. Those that may have been too shy to engage in a class discussion comfortably, sometimes lead the charge in the online forum. This makes for such a collaborative learning environment where students share in the construction of the dialogue. I earned my Ph.D. in Humanities from Salve Regina University where I focused on the relationship between technology and the human experience. My research was an interdisciplinary venture that mined the fields of ethics, communications and technology to examine the impact of digital technology on prosocial behavior. I continue my research in the humanities and technology focusing on ethical implications of artificial intelligence.
