About Kelly Wright

Kelly Wright, MS, GISP is the GIS Analyst for the City of Monroe, Ohio and coordinates GIS initiatives supporting all city departments. She began her GIS career at the Ohio Department of Transportation and later excelled as the GIS Program Manager at an AE Consulting firm in Dayton, Ohio, managing asset management, web GIS and transportation GIS projects for local, state, and federal governments. Ms. Wright has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Texas at Austin (2004) and completed her Master’s degree in Geographic Information Science from the University of Southern California’s Spatial Sciences Institute (2017), receiving the 2018 Jacques May Thesis Prize issued by the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Health and Medical Geography Specialty group for her thesis Web GIS as a Disease Management Workspace: Enabling Advocacy at Multiple Scales Across Multiple Continents with the Case of Tungiasis. She was profiled in the Summer 2016 issue of ArcUser magazine for her graduate work An Exceptional “Normal” Person Changing the World and has presented her graduate work at both the Esri Developer Summit and the AAG annual meeting. She is a proponent of continuing geospatial education, attaining her GISP certification in 2019 and developing training content and workshops to assist others in achieving that certification. Ms. Wright is President of the Southwestern Ohio GIS User Group (SWOGIS) and is also deeply involved with the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP), participating in local and statewide event and conference planning in both Ohio and Kentucky. She regularly offers professional development and GIS technology presentations, workshops, and webinars, most of which are geared toward early career professionals, women, and underrepresented groups in GIS, and she finds great fulfillment in networking with and mentoring others in the industry.
