ABOUT KELLY PUZIO

I started SquidBooks to solve an enormous problem facing teachers around the world: how can we support and challenge every student? Today’s classrooms are incredibly diverse. The same class may include students with special needs, those who are learning English as a new language, and gifted students. Among other considerations, this makes for a wide range of reading abilities — and literacy skills form the foundation for all other learning. To support every student, teachers often work long hours trying to collect and modify resources to meet each student\'s academic needs. This is a waste of time, money, and teacher brainpower. Even when teachers search long and hard, available resources still fall short much of the time. At SquidBooks, we personalize learning with one easy-to-use tool. SquidBooks is designed to promote curiosity, exploration, and wonder. Why does it rain? What’s in outer space? How do plants turn sunlight into energy? We empower students to explore these questions at a pace and level that’s just right for them. As students read and learn, we create teacher-friendly analytics to show what students know and where they need additional support. I\'m uniquely qualified to create effective technology tools for teachers and students. I have a background in teaching, technology, and educational research. As a middle and high school teacher, I worked in diverse, working class schools. I have published research in the world’s top educational journals. I’ve also led software and hardware teams at Lucent Technologies | Bell Labs. I currently have a patent pending for a core SquidBooks feature. My passion is using technology to help people learn. I believe every student can be successful — with the right tools.
