About Kelley Adams
I am a curious, strategic, equity-driven public health professional skilled at research, education, and problem-solving. I am passionate about eradicating inequity and injustice, and, until that comes to fruition, ensuring systems are inclusively designed to effectively serve the folks most impacted by the status quo. Understanding lived experience at both the individual and population levels is crucial to doing this well, which is why research and evaluation, in combination with strategic thinking and public health principles, are my professional jam. For most of my career, I\'ve worked to prevent sexual and relationship violence and harassment, and advocate for folks impacted by these forms of harm (both through individual service provision and systems-level policy and procedure work). I\'ve also had the privilege of leading a team engaged in various aspects of violence prevention and response work through an equity-centered, trauma-informed, public health lens. I\'ve used research and evaluation to better understand the service utilization paths survivors of violence take, assess the impacts and efficacy of prevention programs, examine the institutional environment and work processes around sexual violence reporting, and collect community-specific data on victimization, perpetration, and related norms and attitudes. I really enjoy alternating between \"zooming in\" to understand the details of a specific situation, experience, or issue; and \"zooming out\" to identify patterns, root causes, and potential structural solutions. This skill has enabled me to do some of my best work both as an individual contributor (e.g. develop a trauma-informed, inclusive, and user-friendly survey on sexual assault shaped by the literature as well as advocacy cases and survivor interviews from a study on service utilization pathways) and as a leader (e.g. create team expectations and processes informed by the literature on burnout and vicarious trauma as well as sessions with staff to understand their experiences).I am especially interested in efforts that go beyond the individual level of the social ecology, ways that cultural humility and trauma-informed principles can enhance outcome effectiveness, and opportunities for advancing equity by embedding anti-racism and other anti-oppression efforts within workstreams, systems, and institutions (rather than it being seen as something \"extra\").
