ABOUT KELLEY KAHN

I am an urban planner working at the intersection of real estate, public policy, economic development and the arts. I have significant experience in public/private partnerships, real estate, land use policy and entitlements, and supporting the creative sector in cities. I am currently the Assistant Director of Economic and Workforce Development at the City of Oakland, overseeing the City’s real estate work including the development of affordable housing and other community serving projects on city-owned property. Some of the catalytic projects I\'ve lead include the rehabilitation of the Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts, a new downtown headquarters for Samuel Merritt University, and the creation of more than units of affordable housing on city-owned land. I previously served as Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf\'s policy director for art spaces and economic development, working on policies to support and protect Oakland\'s artists and creative sector and developing grant programs to support small businesses and arts organizations. Before my time in Oakland, I was a Senior Project Manager at the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency (OCII), leading the Mission Bay redevelopment project, a 300-acre public/private partnership that changed Mission Bay from a vacant rail yard into a mix of affordable and market rate housing, new public parks and infrastructure, and a thriving biotechnology cluster. I also served as a Project Director in the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, working on major public/private development projects including the redevelopment of Pier 70 on San Francisco’s southern waterfront.
