Keith R. Leonard is a biotechnology entrepreneur, investor, and civic leader. He is currently Chairman of Arcutis Biotherapeutics [NASDAQ: ARQT], and serves on the boards of Intuitive Surgical [NASDAQ: ISRG] and the Los Angeles Opera, where he is Chairman of the Board.Previously, Mr. Leonard was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of UNITY Biotechnology, a company pioneering therapeutics to prevent, halt, or reverse diseases of aging. He was also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kythera Biopharmaceuticals from 2005 until its acquisition by Allergan in 2015.Earlier in his career, Mr. Leonard spent more than a decade at Amgen Inc, where he held senior executive positions including Senior Vice President and General Manager of Amgen Europe, based in Switzerland, overseeing operations across 28 countries. He also led the creation of Amgen’s inflammation business and held leadership roles in information management, sales and marketing, engineering, operations, and finance.Mr. Leonard began his career as an officer in the United States Navy. He has provided significant leadership and financial support to philanthropies focused on healthcare delivery, veterans’ care, education, urban poverty, and environmental sustainability. He has lived and worked extensively in Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
