ABOUT KEITH PALMER

Dr. Palmer has over 20 years of experience as a practicing structural engineer and six years as a researcher at the University of Minnesota and the University of Washington. Throughout his career, he has designed museums, hospitals, parking garages, and other low to medium-rise commercial and institutional buildings. He has performed many post-earthquake building investigations retrofits and spent five months in Christchurch, New Zealand following the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury Earthquakes. He leads a diverse practice which includes new building design, adaptive reuse, repair and rehab, condition assessments, rocket launch infrastructure design, seismic evaluations and retrofits, and forensic investigations. He is a recognized expert in structural steel design and erection and has investigated several high-profile failures during his career.Part of his practice includes erection engineering for structural steel erectors which includes developing engineered erection plans, staged construction analyses and ensuring the safety and stability of steel buildings during construction. He has performed the erection engineering for numerous steel structures including the Sacramento King\'s basketball stadium, Denver International Airport expansion, highrises in San Francisco and San Jose, CA, and Loma Linda Hospital Adult and Children\'s Hospital Expansion. He managed the erection engineering for the second SpeedCore highrise in the world, 200 Park, in San Jose, CA.He has performed experimental and analytical research on concrete and steel structural systems. The concrete work included understanding and developing design equations for the shear behavior of deep, precast, hollow-core floor systems.
