About Keith Barney

Keith Barney is currently a SPED teacher at Arthur Ashe Charter School. He was formally a Counselor with the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court, working with juvenile offenders on goals and objectives as directed by the court. Keith who has also held the position of Director of Education for Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans, is a career educator who has worked with young people in administrative or teaching capacities for more than 25 years. A member of the 2011 cohort of Leading Educators (a selective training program for educational leaders), Keith previously worked as a teacher and as a Dean of Students with the Recovery School District. He received his original teaching certificate through an alternative certification program in Orlando, Florida, where he taught students with disabilities and was an Alternative School Dean. Keith also worked for more than 12 years in the Job Corps system at four different sites as either a Behavior Manager or a Residential Manager. Keith has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Southern University in New Orleans. Keith also serves as President of the Better Choice Foundation board. BCF oversees the governance and operations of Mary Dora Coghill Charter school. BCF strives to give the children of New Orleans the best education and opportunity at success possible.
