This work is in collaboration with IBM Research and Information Extraction and Synthesis Laboratory @ UMass Amherst under the guidance of Md. Arafat Sultan, Prof. Andrew McCallum and PhD Student Wenlong Zhou.• Reproduced Meta-reported GSM8K scores (45.4% for LLaMA 1B, 77.7% for LLaMA 3B) through prompt engineering research and efficient inference using vLLM and evaluation using Hugging Face.• Implemented SFT and DPO, based distillation workflows using log-probability signals, enabling student models to generalize effectively in low-resource domains and achieve near-parity with larger teachers (e.g, LLaMA 70B).• Analyzed student–teacher log-probability gaps to investigate generalization challenges in low-resource settings, and used log-probability ratios to generate targeted synthetic data for enhancing distillation beyond soft-label imitation
