About Keaton P.
I am a full-time freelance journalist based in Austin covering climate change and the energy transition. Throughout my career, I have also reported on artificial intelligence, city hall, education, government grant programs and small businesses. Most recently, I have been writing for Canary Media, Inside Climate News, Government Market News and The Texas Tribune. Highlights from my work over the past year include investigations into how Bitcoin mining is disrupting rural life and driving demand for new gas power plants, how prescribed burns helped save lives during historic Texas wildfires, and why federal policies are falling short in controlling methane emissions from landfills. In 2023, as a local reporter, I covered city council meetings, zoning changes and elections in Bastrop, Texas for the Austin American-Statesman. And for Community Impact, I wrote feature stories highlighting local restaurants, small businesses and community leaders in the Austin area. I have a Master’s Degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, and my undergraduate degree is in Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley. While attending UC Berkeley, I got my start in journalism as a copy editor for the student-run newspaper The Daily Californian.
