ABOUT KIRA DAROU-SANTOS

I am a Master of Environment and Sustainability (MES) candidate at Western University, with an interest in corporate sustainability, environmental planning, and ESG performance. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology from the University of Guelph, with a strong foundation in water management, toxicology, and applied environmental research.My experience spans research, consulting, and policy support. At Toronto Metropolitan University, I contributed to research on challenges faced by Indigenous women tourism entrepreneurs in Northern Canada. I have also worked as a Water Quality Consultant, conducting water chemistry analysis and treatment, and supported the Municipality of Bluewater in developing an Environmental Strategy through stakeholder engagement. Additional experience includes spatial and statistical analysis to identify regulatory compliance gaps, contributing to federal pollution reporting through the NPRI, and researching stormwater impacts on aquatic ecosystems using integrated knowledge systems. Beyond academics, I have contributed to environmental restoration initiatives with the City of Guelph and remain involved in community-based efforts such as river cleanups and cancer research fundraising. I previously served on Western’s SOGS Sustainability Committee, supporting campus sustainability initiatives and events. As a former varsity athlete and MVP with the Gryphon Rowing Team, I bring a disciplined, team-oriented approach, with strengths in collaboration, project management, and problem-solving. I am motivated to apply data-driven insights to sustainability challenges and welcome opportunities to connect with professionals in corporate sustainability, consulting, and environmental planning.
