WORK HISTORY
Graduate Research Assistant @University Of Michigan-Dearborn
Dearborn, MI, US
Focus: Evaluating the adhesive bonding strength through lap shear tensile testing at room temperature.Tools & Techniques: Material Testing Machines, Data Acquisition Systems, Statistical Analysis Software.Key Responsibilities & Achievements:Conducted Experimental TestingPerformed lap shear tensile tests to assess adhesive strength under various conditions, including different specimen thicknesses (0.5 mm to 1.5 mm).Analyzed Data & Failure ModesInvestigated force-displacement behavior, identifying cohesive vs. adhesive failures. Interpreted results to propose improvements in adhesive application and specimen preparation.Developed Technical PresentationsCreated and delivered a presentation on “Lap Shear Tensile Test – Adhesive Strength Evaluation,” highlighting test findings, trends, and recommendations for future hot/cold temperature trials.Ensured Specimen Quality & ConsistencyMonitored adhesive layer uniformity and alignment to minimize variations in bond strength, improving overall test accuracy.Collaborated with Cross-Functional TeamsWorked closely with senior researchers, lab technicians, and manufacturing partners to optimize specimen design, validate testing procedures, and troubleshoot equipment issues.Planned Future TestingProposed extended testing at elevated and sub-zero temperatures to provide a comprehensive performance profile for different adhesive types.Analyzed force-displacement curves to distinguish cohesive vs. adhesive failure, and proposed improvements in surface prep and adhesive application.

ABOUT KRISHNA ZATALE
I’m a Mechanical Engineering graduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn with strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, and engineering analysis. I enjoy turning ideas into practical, production-ready solutions by combining solid engineering fundamentals with real-world design and testing experience.Currently, I work as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Crash Mechanics Laboratory, where I perform tensile and fatigue testing on adhesively bonded metallic specimens for industry-sponsored research. My work involves test setup, failure analysis, data processing, and close collaboration with faculty and industry engineers to support reliable, standards-driven engineering decisions.Previously, I worked as a Mechanical Design Engineer in industry, designing special purpose machines (SPMs), jigs and fixtures, CNC-compatible assemblies, and automation components. I have hands-on experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX), GD & T, DFM/DFA, DFMEA, BOMs, and FEA (ANSYS), along with exposure to sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and production support.I’m actively seeking full-time roles in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing, or testing, where I can contribute immediately, learn continuously, and grow as an engineer by working on meaningful, real-world products.
