ABOUT KAYLIE JOY BLACK
I would like to introduce myself as a Scenic Artist. As an exceptional scenic artist with a background in design, I understand the impact that good environment design can have on storytelling. During my previous role as scenic artist on Norman Picklestripes, a Universal Kids production, I used a variety of techniques for textures, paint, foliage and landscapes to develop organic set scenery within the stylisation of the show. I worked closely with the production designer to sample materials and work on look development to translate designs into fabricated assets. I was able to mass produce the various assets with accuracy and consistency. Whilst working on Scream Street, a CBBC production, I developed insight into the scheduling demands for both pre and in production and how they can differ. Working closely with the art director to implement their creative vision on look development for specific scenes and spaces. I am very detail oriented and able to work with a wide range of materials. My education in performance design at The University of Leeds gave me background knowledge of art and colour theory, painting, sculpting and design knowledge that gave me grounding for my career as a scenic artist.During the pandemic, I studied at Brainstorm School in animation design specific classes. Here I broadened my understanding of environments, how they grow naturally and how cultures develop within those spaces. I obtained knowledge in form language, taking influence from an object or subject to help design others.
