ABOUT KAYLA LIEN

As a first generation Asian American. I am very passionate about health care and want to bring my experiences I learned through running a non profit, club experiences, and prior work experiences to make me the best nurse I can be. I am currently a Nursing student at Towson University. Through the non profit I started in high school with a few other classmates, Crafts For Charity; took a passion for crochet and knitting to help the community by teaching the fun and useful skill of crocheting/knitting and donating those products to local homeless shelters and hospitals. After graduation I took a step back to focus on my studies but our non profit is running strong to this day. Ever since I was a kid I knew I wanted to go into health care it was just a matter of what I wanted to do. When I ultimately decided nursing was for me I ventured out to obtain my CNA. The experiences I learned through getting my certification was eye opening and it truly showed me the depth of care nurses do. Getting my CNA early opened a lot of doors for me. I currently work at Sinai Hospital in the Mother/Baby unit, here I have not only grown as a care giver but as a person. My commitment to patient care and truly flourished here which shows through my nomination for the BEE award. I have overcome lots of obstacles through this position and learned so much while connecting the content I learn in classes to hands on experiences. As a member of Alpha Phi I have gained so many experiences and connections that I would not have been able to gain anywhere else. I was given the opportunity to attend the Alpha Phi Disney Institute, where I learned many valuable skills about being a leader. Through my position as Director of Sisterhood, I was able to tap into my creative side to come up with fun creative events to foster group connections within the chapter. Now as Director of philanthropy I can take my passion for service and execute them through philanthropic pursuits to raise awareness for women’s heart heath by raising funds for the Alpha Phi foundation.
