ABOUT KAUSTUBHA KANE
I have over 8 years of experience in working on a variety of projects involving of Finite Element Simulations, Stress Analysis & Experimental Testing. I have worked on complex problems using finite element software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-Dyna), experimental tests, and hand calculations from first principles. I am experienced in working in a team as well as individually to achieve project goals. Through my PhD, I have gained transferable technical skills as well as leadership, time-management, and interpersonal skills. I have gained a wider understanding of handling complex engineering and research problems and leading projects to deliver goals in set timeframes. As a Senior Mechanical Analysis Engineer at Dyson I lead product robustness analyses from an early stage to pre-production stage. I was working on mechanical/structural analysis of Dyson products undergoing drop/impact conditions as well as moulding simulation of polymer parts using Moldflow. My work involved Finite Element analyses of parts and assemblies, experimental testing and data processing to correlate analysis results. In addition I also worked on creating mathematical/system models of real life load cases in MATLAB/Simulink and compare the structural behaviour with test data to assess failure modes. Previously I worked as a Research Engineer on Dyson Digital Motors (DDM) development, testing and data processing, and finite element analysis of motor components. I performed extensive tests on bearings till failure and analysed the test data using signal processing algorithms in MATLAB to create bearing failure models. As a PhD Researcher at Michelin Tyres France, I worked on a novel tyre rubber-steel cord composite fracture test. The key areas of my research included theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects of solid mechanics - especially nonlinear materials and fracture mechanics. I used mathematical models, Finite Element Analysis as well as experimental tests to study the fracture behaviour of Rubber-Steel Cord composites. During my master\'s degree I gained skills in Finite Element (FE) Modelling applied to various materials and structures through courses and assignments. Projects and numerical tasks performed during courses like Fracture Mechanics, Continuum Mechanics and Advanced FEM gave me thorough knowledge & experience in studying material behaviours and comparing them with experimental as well as FEM results. I have developed expertise in numerical tools such as MATLAB, ABAQUS and ANSYS.
