About Kaushik Roy
I am an Associate Staff Scientist at Cincinnati Children\'s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). My research involves using human pluripotent stem cells to study the developmental dynamics of early cardiogenesis. My role involves conceptualizing, designing and conducting innovative experiments to better understand how cells make fate decisions in response to signals they receive from other cells as well as their environment. I have developed innovative stem cell based assays to study tissue-level interactions leading to self-organized cardiac induction. I am also involved in the quantitative modeling and analysis of experimental data including scRNA-seq analysis as well as physics-inspired dynamical systems modeling. Our lab was previously located in Rice University where I was a postdoctoral associate.Prior to this, I was a postdoctoral researcher at McGill University and University of Montreal where I worked with Paul Francois to quantitatively model experimentally observed oscillatory gene expression dynamics of the mouse segmentation clock using phase reduction approach. My educational background is in Physics with a PhD in Physics from Stony Brook University. My PhD research focused on small-x physics, more specifically, perturbative computations of deep inelastic scattering processes in the Color Glass Condensate EFT framework. This was further motivated by the prospect of discovering gluon saturation at the future Electron Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Lab, US and the requirement of theoretical precision in high energy QCD computations that can tested against experimental observations. Following a mentally abusive experience during my PhD, I left high energy physics and explored QCD-gravity correspondence during a postdoc position at the Max Planck Institute for Physics, Munich, Germany. During this time, my interests took a turn towards Biosciences and since Jan 2023, I begun the transition in this direction. My goal is to start my own research lab of an interdisciplinary nature involving theory, computation and experiments. Besides stem cells and dynamical systems, I am also interested in NeuroAI, cardiac and brain organoids and aim to extend my research towards these directions.
