About Katy Lang
We must radically shift how we get around to save our planet and ourselves. We must plan and act so everyone-regardless of age, gender, class, race, nationality, or ability-can travel safely, comfortably, and with dignity. I manage the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program for the District of Columbia. I am responsible for the moveDC goal of 75% sustainable commute trips in the District by 2032 and am committed to achieving this through DDOT\'s goDCgo program, development review, and smart policies like parking cashout. From 20••••22 as the Director of Active Transportation programs for Arlington County Commuter Services, my team and I designed and implemented behavior-change programming and campaigns to get more people biking and walking, more often. From 20••••18 I earned my Masters in Urban & Regional Planning at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, focusing on transportation planning. While there, I worked at the UNC Highway Safety Research Center where I developed guidance on systemic safety and effective countermeasures for reducing pedestrian crash risk. Prior to switching industries, I built my professional foundation as a consultant, working on organizational change, communication, and learning with internal and external clients within the non-profit sector and the Federal government. Outside of work, I am a dedicated potter and local organizer.
