ABOUT KATURAKA ALSTON

As an educator, it is my mission to help students discover their natural abilities in the classroom that will allow them to navigate in a global world. It is through English/ Literacy that students gain independence when given the tools to foster stronger reading and writing skills. Furthermore, it is important that I am able to guide students of color towards discovering their historical and cultural identities through literature, information, natural inquiry, and critical thinking. For that matter, my goal is simple; to develop an institution that is serious about the education of our young minds who are for the most part underrepresented and marginalized, fostering just that: academics, culture, history, and a healthy self identity that doesn\'t compromise academic integrity, self esteem, or bend towards the status quo. As a future school leader, I am looking to develop and nurture teachers to develop their capacity and enhance their skills as classroom practitioners. Moreover, I am moving towards educating and developing teachers to think, plan, and teach in a culturally responsive and relative fashion that will afford our boys of color the access into their educational experience not yet given in the traditional setting.If you are serious about this venture, understand that which tries to hold our young people back, understand the importance of marrying academics and cultural relevancy, then let us speak and act.
