The EPC is recognized as one of the nation’s leading sources of expertise on post-secondary access (Pell Grants), finance (National Surveys of Access and Finance), transfer, and economic development. Our classifications work is embedded in all federal U.S. Department of Education post-secondary education research databases. While EPC’s reach is national-we have been the research arm for the Rural Community College Alliance for the past decade-we have special interest in rural institutions, people, and places based upon our roots in Alabama and the Deep South states of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.The Education Policy Center Since 2005, EPC has been awarded more than $5 million of external funds for basic and applied research, analyses of education issues, and service to policy-makers in Alabama and beyond. Achievements include: The University of Alabama Superintendent\'s Academy—new superintendents under state law must complete this program. UASA updates handbooks on school law, finance, and personnel. Since 2005, most program completions have been women and persons of color. The EPC hosts brown bags and professional activities for UA/COE faculty, and publishes issue briefs on K-12 issues include No Child Left Behind and charter schools. Our work has been presented on Capitol Hill, at the White House Domestic Policy Issues’ Rural Council, and at the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture, and has been quoted prominently in Education Week, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and InsideHigherEd. I have served as Coordinator of Alabama Community College Policy Fellows Program since 2015.
