ABOUT KATRYSHA GELLIS

Hi, my name is Katrysha. I’m a passionate advocate for SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) awareness, bystander CPR and 24/7 public access to AEDs (automated external defibrillators). I believe that everyone should feel confident to react in an emergency because quick actions truly can save lives. My passion comes from personal experience. Two weeks after my 30th birthday, in 2015, I lost consciousness and stopped breathing at work. With no health issues, warning signs, or apparent reason, my heart simply stopped beating; I had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Thankfully, two of my colleagues knew what to do in an emergency and ultimately saved my life. Inspired to pay it forward, I became certified as an instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and founded a CPR training initiative called Living Proof CPR Training in 2018. I’m passionate about teaching life-saving skills and spreading the word about the importance of bystander CPR and 24/7 public access to life-saving AEDs. I am now proudly working alongside the amazing and dedicated team at Action First Aid as partnerships manager and SaveStation Ambassador, supporting and expanding our partner network and educating customers about life-saving AEDs and FirstAid training. Volunteering: I’m an ambassador for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, dedicated to advocacy, education, and the funding of research surrounding heart disease and stroke. I’m also a member of the public engagement committee for Canadian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (CanROC), a research initiative designed to improve survival rates for people who go into cardiac arrest at home or in a public place outside of a hospital. Specialties: Heart & Stroke Certified CPR Instructor, passionate and dedicated advocate for CPR and AED awareness and education, strong networking and business development skills, account management and sales, building lasting customer relationships, managing projects and working with teams.
