About Katie Down
I am the director of Sound Well Creative Arts Therapy, PLLC, a private practice that specializes in trauma-informed psychotherapy, music therapy and sound healing. For over 15 years, I have been helping clients who have experienced trauma, attachment issues, depression and anxiety to heal, connect, and express themselves using EMDR, creative arts therapies including music, art, movement, and mindfulness meditation. As a music psychotherapist, I work regularly with survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and domestic violence and am also part of the Angel Band Project that provides free music therapy services to survivors for groups that run 6-8 weeks. I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with a master\'s degree in music psychotherapy from NYU and post graduate certifications in EMDR Levels 1,2, and 3 from Dr. Laurel Parnell, and from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy\'s Trauma Studies program. I am also an adjunct professor at SUNY New Paltz in their music therapy program and have created courses and corresponding syllabi for the program. I am a regular a guest lecturer at Vassar College, NYU, University of Colorado, Hofstra University, Adelphi University, Cal State Fullerton, The School of Visual Arts, as well as for grand rounds presentations at Morgan Stanley Children\'s Hospital, Jamaica Hospital, and Bronx Psychiatric Hospital. I offer trainings in sound and music to clinicians and healing arts practitioners who are interested in incorporating sound and music into their clinical work. Co-journeying with my clients gives me inspiration every day and I am passionate about using the power of sound and creativity to foster healing and resilience for all.
