ABOUT KATIE THOMAS
I have a passion for driving impactful communications and marketing initiatives and achieving strategic goals. Currently, I serve as the director of Population Health Marketing at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and as the national director of Content and Educational Partnerships at The Kids Mental Health Foundation. In these roles, I have led transformative initiatives that significantly advanced critical programs for underserved communities. This includes reaching more than 18 million people with upstream mental health content. Throughout my career, I have successfully translated complex strategic goals into effective marketing and communication strategies across various sectors, from healthcare to education and finance. The biggest trait I bring to an organization is my ability to foster strong relationships and partnerships – whether that is internally, through our local community or nationally. I know how to work across multiple stakeholders to find consensus. I love being able to find common ground and partner with organizations to reach the best desired outcome. Lifelong learning is important to me and something I carry with me every day. That learning comes in the form of leadership in organizations and mentoring our next generation of communications and marketing professionals. I have been lucky to serve as president of the Central Ohio Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 2020.(The best year to be president!) Our chapter worked within seven days of the statewide shutdown to pivot our programming and offer education to our members. I love giving back to our profession through mentoring because so many people helped me along the way. I’ve mentored and met with hundreds of students and now serve as the National Professional Adviser for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).One of my biggest professional challenges has been serving as a lecturer at The Ohio State University. I have stretched myself in new ways to teach the next generation about clear, concise writing. As I continue growing in the field, I’m excited about what’s next and where I can continue to hone my leadership skills. In my free time, I love pushing myself physically. I have been a certified Spinning instructor for more than 10 years and occasionally enter CrossFit Festivus competitions.
