Provide direct bedside care in 24-bed adult ICU for patients who have recently undergone cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgery. Unit specializes in coronary artery bypass, heart and lung transplant, heart valve repair, ventricular assist devices, esophageal procedures as well as carotid revascularization and abdominal and thoracic aneurysm and dissection repairs. ECMO trained RN for both veno-venous and veno-arterial circuits, preceptor to new nurses on the unit, and mentor to senior University of Michigan nursing students doing clinicals on the unit. Level E nurse and utilizes knowledge of vasoactive drips to titrate, trained for cardiac devices including LVADs (HeartMate and HeartWare, all generations), Total Artificial Heart, CentriMag, Impella, Tandem, and AbioMed.
