About Katie Schaag
I\'m a writer, artist, theorist, and educator. As a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre & Performance at Spelman College, I teach performance theory and practice, site-specific performance, dramatic literature, creative writing, and other courses at the intersection of theatre, visual arts, literary arts, and digital media. From 20••••21 I held a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellowship in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Tech, where I taught UX, multimodal communication, digital media, and creative writing. I earned my PhD in English Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a specialization in Performance Studies and a minor in Fine Art and Creative Writing. I was previously the UW-Madison English Department\'s Mendota Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, a Humanities Without Walls National Fellow, and a consultant at UW Design Lab, a transmedia storytelling center dedicated to democratizing digitality. I\'ve worked with museums, libraries, and universities to orchestrate public arts and humanities symposia, workshops, talks, and performances. As a multimedia artist and writer I perform, exhibit, and publish my work in national and international venues, and I\'ve taught public workshops on creative writing, performance, and art as activism. I was recently an Artist-in-Residence at Texas A&M\'s Academy for the Visual & Performing Arts as well as a Fulton County Arts & Culture Distinguished Fellow at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences.
