About Katie Larue
I’m a software and machine learning engineer focused on building reliable, production-ready systems at the intersection of software engineering, machine learning, and computational modeling. I hold dual master’s degrees in Applied & Computational Mathematics (M.S, University of Washington, 2025) and Computer Science (M.S, Western Washington University, 2024).My work spans applied machine learning, computer vision, and systems-oriented engineering. In an academic research setting, I contributed to a deep learning pipeline for LiDAR-based archaeological site detection used by a partner department at my university. My contributions focused on dataset refinement, semantic mask generation, and iterative model tuning, improving segmentation accuracy by ~20%. This experience strengthened my ability to collaborate on ML systems with real stakeholders while working within research constraints.I’ve also built ML-driven image classification models, neural style-transfer pipelines, and computational graphics tools, including mesh rendering and 3D ray-tracing components. Across projects, I’ve worked end-to-end on data preparation, model development, evaluation, and writing deployment-ready code, with a strong emphasis on correctness, performance, and maintainability.Previously, I worked as a Software Engineering Intern at USAA, where I was part of a four-intern team prototyping an internal IVR system as a proof of concept. I worked in a cloud-native environment using AWS, Go, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling, contributing to system integration and participating fully in agile workflows. The project successfully validated the technical feasibility of the design through internal testing. In parallel, I bring leadership and communication experience from serving as a Lead Computer Science Tutor and Graduate TA. In these roles, I supported over 150 students, helped double tutoring program capacity, and onboarded 12 new tutors—developing a strong ability to explain complex technical concepts, mentor peers, and work cross-functionally.I’m seeking new-grad full-time roles starting January 2026, with a primary focus on Software Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering, particularly on teams building ML-enabled products, data-driven systems, or scalable software platforms. If you’re working on applied ML systems or software products where engineering rigor and mathematical grounding matter, I’d be glad to connect.
