ABOUT KATIE HERRINGTON

STU B.Ed graduate 2025 in the Secondary History/Social Studies stream. UNB Saint John graduate and Valedictorian for Spring 2022. Bachelor of Arts with a Politics Major, with areas of interest including poverty and harm reduction, housing, and active transportation. During my first degree, I served as a writer, copy editor, then Editor-in-Chief of The Baron, UNBSJ’s independent student press. I also volunteered with two Get Out the Vote campaigns, as a UNB-SRC representative with the NBSA’s Advocacy Week, was a mentor with the Promise Partnership program, and co-founded the Politics Society on campus. I also co-founded the UNB-SRC’s first Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee, and served a term as their LGBTQ+ councillor. Prior to my Arts degree, I obtained two and a half years of training from the Bachelor of Nursing program, accruing experience in community nursing as well and long-term and acute care. I’ve been an active volunteer in my community and in the healthcare sector for 14+ years. I am currently serving as a Board Member of Chroma NB. Previous work experience includes retail, five years in Home Support and Disaster Management with the Canadian Red Cross, and multiple research positions with UNBSJ’s History & Politics and Sociology departments. I’ve also worked in community development at the government and non-profit levels. Most recently, I have worked part-time as a supply teacher for Anglophone South School District for two school years.
