About Katie Davis
Water, energy and waste management are my passions. Projects that help us do any (or even all at once!) better keeps me excited to be an environmental engineer. I have 10+ years leading bioenergy development, including using microorganisms to convert coal to cleaner natural gas and converting organic wastes to biogas in anaerobic digester projects. I also have 6+ years focusing on biotreatments of wastewater, water quality and contaminated groundwater projects. While leading an interdisciplinary technology development team, with both academic and industry partners, we realized in grants with 100% renewal for all funding years. I have demonstrated quality communication abilities with 10 published peer-reviewed research articles and >15 presentations at regional and national conferences. The pilot-scale wastewater treatment wetland I helped design and build has been so successful that our partner company has now built a full-scale system. Before my engineering career, I was a sled dog trainer, racer and guide. I was the team leader and managed a few dozen wildly enthusiastic canine personalities, along with working with my human teammates. I learned how time management and impeccable planning prepared me to think on the fly and stick with it, even when nothing went as planned. My sled dogs took me on some wild adventures, including completing both the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest, and shaped my work ethic, problem-solving abilities, and grit.Skills/interests: bioenergy development, biofuels, renewable natural gas, wastewater treatment design, water reuse, biotreatment technologies, nutrient removal/cycling, anaerobic digestion, biofilms, wastewater epidemiology, climate change, team leadership, project management, sustainable solutions, interdisciplinary collaboration, mountain biking, campfires, and beautiful sunrises
