About Katie Waldo

Katie Waldo started volunteering at age 5 and decided it would be her superpower. She’s an active volunteer around Washington, D.C, a place she has called home since moving there to work for the Obama administration in 2008. Katie currently serves as Co-Founder and Managing Director at We The Action, a nonprofit that connects lawyers to nonprofit organizations around the country. Since Katie helped launch the organization in 2017, the community of lawyers have donated more than hours of legal services worth more than $190 million to 700 nonprofit partners. We The Action lawyers offer their specialized skills and experience to nonprofit organizations working on our nation’smost pressing issues — voting rights, immigrant rights, racial justice, gender equity, reproductive freedom, and more. Lawyers of every expertise, experience, and location can find projects to make the biggest impact through We The Action.Katie is an expert in the field of volunteer management and shares best practices with We The Action’s nonprofit partners. Her work enables nonprofits to scale their impact while allowing lawyers to gain new experiences and help people in need. Before joining We The Action, Katie served as White House Trip Manager, traveling the world with President Obama and managing logistics for 125 trips totaling over miles on Air Force One. From 20••••14 she worked for White House photographer, Pete Souza. Prior to joining the Administration, Katie was an early member of the 2008 Obama campaign as an operations director in multiple battleground states. Katie serves on the board of The Homeless Children\'s Playtime Project, where she has been volunteering since 2017. The organization seeks to cultivate resilience in children experiencing family homelessness by providing access to play opportunities that nurture healthy child development and by challenging systemic injustice by advocating for policies and practices that reduce the risk of chronic homelessness.Katie graduated from Creighton University where she had the opportunity to study and volunteer in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.
