ABOUT KATIE BARTOJAY
As Director of the Bureau of Reclamation’s Technical Service Center (TSC), Katie leads over 500 engineers and scientists who pioneer groundbreaking solutions for water and power throughout the Western US. Katie’s leadership skills were developed over 25 years in engineering and construction, entrepreneurial business development, government service, and extensive volunteer efforts. Katie began her federal career in 2005 as a Civil Engineer in the TSC’s Materials Engineering and Research Laboratory. She subsequently managed the Concrete and Structural Laboratory and Client Support Service Office. Katie is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering/Structures from the University of Pittsburgh and was a featured Reclamation speaker on the History Channel’s Modern Marvels program “Dams.” In 2011, Katie was awarded the Department of Interior and Bureau of Reclamation Engineer of the Year, and in 2016 the American Concrete Institute named her a Fellow of the Institute. Katie started her career in the private sector gaining experience on high profile and diverse projects including high rise buildings, stadiums, roads, bridges, dams, and water storage projects. She started a still-thriving family-owned residential construction business in 2003.
