The precise moment when the fire was sparked to help educators and students was on a fall day. It was during my “stay-at-home-mom” years when I surprisingly ended up working for the schools. I was helping teachers with students who were struggling. I was telling a mother how her son, Dylan, was improving and there was every reason to believe he could one day be a mechanical engineer,(his dream).I’ll never forget his face when his mother replied, “Dylan ain’t going to NO COLLEGE!” He went from eager, optimistic learner to dejected, hopeless victim. I learned how tough it can be to educate a student, but to empower that student as well means educators and schools need the very best support and resources at their disposal. Period.
